The CrossFit Open

Who is ready for the CrossFit Open?! This year is my third Open and I am so excited to see what workouts they come up with and to see all of the progress I have made from last year! The CrossFit Open is a worldwide competition that starts the CrossFit Season for the year. It consists of 3 workouts over the span of 3 weeks. The workouts embody the definition of CrossFit as they involve “constantly varied functional movements performed at a high intensity”.  The open brings people together of all different backgrounds, ages, and abilities, to create this amazing and welcoming CrossFit community.

The beauty of the Open is that it gives anyone and everyone the opportunity to compete against their peers and the most elite athletes in the world. Your final standing in the Open determines if you make it to the next level, Quarterfinals. You may be thinking, “I can’t compete with the most elite athletes in the world”, and that is fine! Every single workout that comes out has the option to scale, or modify, the weights or movements so it is better fit to each individual’s skill level. There is also are opportunities for adaptive athletes to compete as well. These adaptive divisions include the following:

  • Men and Women Adaptive: Upper Extremity

  • Men and Women Adaptive: Lower Extremity

  • Men and Women Adaptive: Neuromuscular

  • Men and Women Adaptive: Vision

  • Men and Women Adaptive: Seated Athletes With Hip Function

  • Men and Women Adaptive: Seated Athletes Without Hip Function

  • Men and Women Adaptive: Short Stature

  • Men and Women Adaptive: Intellectual

All in all, the Open is a chance to put forth your best effort with a grueling workout scaled or not scaled based upon your fitness level, disabilities, age, etc. I urge you to sign up whether it is your first Open or 10th Open. It will be a blast either way! Just click here to sign up.

With all of that being said, the Open begins today! Each workout is released on Thursday at 12pm PST and athletes will have until Monday at 5pm to submit their scores online. Make sure you stop by our Instagram @athletic_edgept each Thursday evening for the next 3 weeks to find warm ups specific for each workout!
